  • A general physical therapist is someone who graduated from a certified physical therapy program, and specializes in treating the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems of the body. A pelvic floor physical therapist is similar to a general physical therapist, but has additional training and expertise about the pelvic floor muscles and how they interact with the body and nearby organs.

  • No! Sex should never be painful. There are certain conditions such as vaginismus, vulvodynia, and endometriosis that can cause pain with intercourse. Additionally, during a woman's lifetime she could experience sexual pain with hormonal changes related to birth control pills, pregnancy, or menopause. ere

  • No. We feel comfortable to treat patients on their menstrual cycle. However, treatment can always be modified by your therapist at this time according to your preference.

  • Yes. We treat both men and women, as both have a pelvic floor! Common male diagnoses seen are: prostatitis, post-prostatectomy, BPH, penile pain and sexual dysfunction, bowel and bladder dysfunction, and abdominal pain.

  • Yes. In New York state, you can see a physical therapist without a prescription for 30 days or 10 visits (within 30 days). After this, you will need a prescription. During your initial consult, we can assist you on how to obtain this.

  • Yes. If you are not in the tri-state area, we do offer virtual consultations.

  • Our physical therapists have 10 + years of experience in treating women and men with pelvic floor dysfunction. Kara and Erica are both board-certified women’s health clinical specialists. They are experts in differential diagnosing patients and are excellent communicators with your medical team. We understand that care must be holistic and comprehensive, and this is the most important part of treating pelvic floor dysfunction.

  • A $125 cancellation fee is charged to patients who do not notify us of a cancelled appointment before 12pm the day prior to their appointment. Patients who do not show up for an appointment will be charged the full- rate for the no-show appointment.

  • The physical therapists at Solstice Physiotherapy are out-of-network providers. If insurance was pre-verified by Solstice Physiotherapy and your credit card information is on file for payment purposes, Solstice Physiotherapy will submit claims on the patient’s behalf. The patient pays the co-insurance at the time of visit and the insurance company will pay us directly. Any charges not covered by the insurance company are the responsibility of the patient. The patient is responsible for knowing their insurance benefits and coverage. We will ask for your current plan so we can call the insurance company directly to determine your benefits.
