General Muscle Pain
While muscle pain stems from a variety of causes, it is most commonly associated with injury, stress, or overuse from work or exercise. Our physical therapy techniques can help, improving mobility by manually releasing muscle tension and decreasing pain. With a focus on lasting muscle health, we provide strengthening exercises that improve stability and function, as well as reduce the risk of re-injury.
Hip Dysfunction and Pain
Hip dysfunction comprises any discomfort in the lateral aspect of the pelvis, as well as in the upper thigh and outer buttocks. It is commonly associated with arthritis, labral tears, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), bursitis, muscle strains, and/or tendonitis. Hip pain can often radiate, with aches felt in the groin, anterior thigh, and glute regions. This dysfunction requires a physical therapy evaluation, which determines the root cause and rules out referred pain from the sacroiliac joints and lower back. Treatment includes joint mobilization for motion range, manual therapy massage for decreased muscle tension, and strengthening for stability, performance, and function.
Back Dysfunction and Pain
Back dysfunction is felt in the lumbar spine, between the bottom of the rib cage and the top of the glutes. The onset of lower back pain can stem from a variety of factors, but is primarily attributed to disc injuries, muscle strain/spasm, and joint dysfunction. Such stress is often caused by sedentary living habits, job hazards, pregnancy/postpartum, arthritis, or repetitive activities like strenuous exercise. While pain can be centered in the lower back, it can also radiate throughout the glutes, legs, and feet, commonly referred to as sciatica. Our physical therapy can help. Treatment uses soft tissue techniques to address muscle spasms, practices core and hip strengthening to improve stability, and prevents re-injury by correcting exercise form and postural dysfunction.
Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) Dysfunction and Pain
What is the sacroiliac joint? At the base of the spine, the sacrum (a triangular bone just above the coccyx) meets the ilia. These two ilia flank the sacrum and form the ilium, which links the spine to the pelvis and creates two joints on either side. Abnormal motion in the sacroiliac joints spawns mechanical problems and discomfort—or sacroiliac dysfunction. SIJ pain can be triggered by pregnancy, hyper-mobility, leg length discrepancy, and/or autoimmune disorders. Often painful, it may lead to trouble walking, mounting stairs, moving to stand, or rolling over in bed. If this sounds familiar, Solstice can help. Our therapists use mobilization routines, girdle exercises, and other effective tools to correct pelvic imbalance, building core stability and reducing daily strain.
Lower Extremity Dysfunction
Lower extremity dysfunction refers to any damage of the knees, legs, ankles, and feet. Injury can generate from impaired walking mechanics, anatomical variations, nerve-related issues, and joint disease. Musculoskeletal conditions, such as tendonitis and arthritis, can also play a hand, as well as sports-related injuries like sprains, strains, and stress fractures. If this applies to you, don’t wait to act. Our physical therapy practice soothes pain, builds stability, and boosts walking habits. With strength training that corrects muscle imbalance and soft tissue massage that improves mobility, we are committed to lasting care and long-term recovery.
